A man tried to break into the courtyard of the Russian embassy in Bucharest with a car this night, Digi 24 TV reports. The incident occurred after 3 a.m. on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, BTA reported.
The Romanian gendarmerie guard in front of the embassy managed to stop the person before he entered the perimeter of the diplomatic mission, the gendarmerie reported. Shortly afterwards, a team of the Romanian Intelligence Service arrived on the scene.
The man tried to escape, but after the intervention teams blocked the car, he decided to surrender. He is a 53-year-old Romanian citizen with a temporarily revoked driving license. The drug test, conducted on site, showed the presence of two prohibited substances in the body, reports Digi 24.
The man was taken to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for biological samples to be taken. A statement from the gendarmerie specified that the two prohibited substances found in the man's blood were benzodiazepine and amphetamine.
The Romanian gendarmerie also specified that the security of the embassy was not endangered and no injuries or serious material damage were recorded as a result of the incident.
