Trump cancels plans to send National Guard to San Francisco - 1

US President Donald Trump will not send National Guard forces to San Francisco, the city's Mayor Daniel Lurie announced today after a conversation with the Republican leader, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Lurie specified that Trump informed him in a phone call last night about the cancellation of all plans for the deployment of federal forces. Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noam confirmed the decision in a separate conversation today, the mayor said on the social media platform "Ex".

"We have work to do and would welcome our continued partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Attorney General to keep our streets free of drugs and dealers," Lurie noted. He added that enforcing immigration laws through military force would have a negative impact on the city.

"We appreciate the fact that the president understands that we are a global technology hub and that when San Francisco is strong, our country is strong," the mayor stressed.

Trump later posted on social media that the mayor of San Francisco had acknowledged the city's progress in fighting crime and that the president agreed that the city should continue to solve the problem on its own.

Trump had previously hinted that San Francisco would be the next stop for National Guard personnel being sent to various Democratic-run cities. Several lawsuits have been filed against these actions.

"We are going to go to San Francisco and make it great," Trump said last Sunday on Fox News.
