Turkey in talks with Qatar and Oman to buy fighter jets - 1

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he discussed Turkey's plans to acquire “Eurofighter Typhoon“ fighter jets (Eurofighter Typhoon) from Qatar and Oman during his tour of the Gulf this week, noting that talks were going well, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

The news agency reported on Wednesday that Ankara had offered its European partners and the United States ways to quickly acquire the fighter jets, amid talks to buy 40 “Eurofighter Typhoons“, produced by a consortium including Germany, Britain, Spain and Italy, as well as American F-16s and F-35s.

A source familiar with the matter said that under an agreement that is about to be concluded with Britain and other European countries for “Eurofighter Typhoons“, Turkey will immediately receive 12 of the fighters, although used, from previous buyers Qatar and Oman, to meet its immediate needs.

Erdogan was on visits to Kuwait, Qatar and Oman this week.

Telling reporters on the plane returning from Oman, Erdogan said Turkey was continuing to negotiate with Qatar and Oman about acquiring the fighter jets and that the discussions, which include “many technical details“, were moving in a “positive direction“.

“We want to conclude the negotiations quickly and, God willing, make our air force much stronger. Our air force will become much stronger with these fighter jets,“ he said, according to a transcript of his comments released by the presidency.
