Next winter in Ukraine, power outages and rising prices could force factories to close and the population to be left without heating, The New York Times reports.

“There are growing concerns that many households may be left without adequate heating this winter, given that sub-zero temperatures could linger in the country for weeks“, the publication predicts.

The article notes that the likely closure of factories and the worsening energy shortage will significantly increase the flow of emigrants from Ukraine, which will further worsen the country's economic situation.

Earlier, former Ukrainian Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan warned that the country will not be able to avoid interruptions in gas and electricity supplies this winter.

The Russians troops regularly strike Ukrainian energy facilities.
