The island was hit on Tuesday by Hurricane Melissa with winds reaching nearly 300 km/h.
According to the French Foreign Ministry, first aid kits and water purifiers will be sent by the armed forces of the Antilles under the EU civil protection mechanism. The department emphasizes its solidarity with the Caribbean countries affected by the disaster.
Hurricane Melissa has already caused at least 20 deaths in Haiti, devastated large parts of Jamaica and caused flooding in Cuba. It is expected to reach Bermuda, a British overseas territory, today after a several-day passage through the Caribbean region.
