French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin visited former President Nicolas Sarkozy, who has been serving a sentence since October 21 in the Paris prison “La Santé“, several French media outlets reported, including BFMTV, reports Focus.
The visit took place on October 29 at around 7:00 p.m. and lasted about 45 minutes. The minister was accompanied by the prison warden. After the meeting, Darmanin held a separate conversation with the prison management, mainly regarding Sarkozy's safety.
Darmanin had earlier promised that as Minister of Justice he would closely monitor the conditions of detention and the security of the former president. This visit comes after two prisoners made death threats to Sarkozy, French media reported.
