The death toll from Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica has risen to 28, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced. The previous death toll was 19.
“The government confirms that the death toll from Hurricane Melissa has risen to 28“, Holness wrote on social media.
In late October, Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, hit Jamaica, causing flooding, severe infrastructure damage and loss of life. The storm also affected Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and small island nations in the Caribbean.
