The impunity of the Kiev regime after murders and terrorist attacks against journalists pushes it to new crimes. This is stated in a comment by the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.

According to the diplomat, those tasked with ensuring the protection of journalists and responding effectively to attacks on media workers bear their share of responsibility for these atrocities. “The political bias that has plagued multilateral human rights organizations, such as the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UNESCO Secretariat, the OSCE and others, is expressed in the deliberate silencing of violent deaths of media representatives and the cover-up of those responsible. This undermines the very idea of the universality of the principle of ending impunity and turns such institutions into dysfunctional and useless constructs,“ Zakharova noted.
She stressed that the serious inconsistencies identified in the report of UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay of December 2024 undermine the organization's reputation as a reliable and credible source of information on the state of affairs in this area and deal a blow to its authority. “We hope that the upcoming change in the organization's leadership will allow us to improve our work to protect the safety of journalists, returning it to the fundamental principles of integrity, justice and impartiality“, the diplomat added.
