US President Donald Trump told CBS News that he does not plan to give in to blackmail from the Democratic Party and make a deal to end the federal government shutdown.
“I am very good at it /b. finding compromises/, but I will not do it by being blackmailed by Democrats who are lost. Something is wrong with these people“, said the acting President of the White House.
“Schumer /b. Senate Minority Leader/ is a lost cause. He has nothing to lose. He has become a kamikaze pilot“, added the American president. Trump expressed confidence that the government shutdown will soon end and the US government will be funded.
“We'll figure it out. They'll have to vote eventually“, said the sitting senator in the White House.
A partial shutdown of the US federal government began at midnight on October 1 due to a lack of funding after Congress failed to reach an agreement on several spending items, including health care. Democrats and Republicans have accused each other of provoking the shutdown and prolonging it for political purposes.
Since 1977, funding for the federal government has been interrupted more than 20 times due to disagreements between the administration and Congress. The longest period was 35 days – from December 22, 2018 to January 25, 2019 (during Donald Trump's first term).
