Mexican authorities in the state of Sinaloa on Mexico's Pacific coast were attacked by an armed group yesterday afternoon, with the incident resulting in the deaths of 13 of the attackers, Security and Citizen Protection Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch said, Reuters reported.
Harfuch added that four more people had been detained and Mexican authorities had released nine others who had previously been kidnapped.
Over the past year, the Mexican state has been hit by a wave of violence between factions of the "Sinaloa" drug cartel as authorities try to regain control of the area.
