The United States has prepared a draft UN Security Council resolution to lift sanctions on Ahmed al-Sharaa, Syria's interim president, Reuters reported.

The United States is also proposing to lift sanctions on Anas Khattab, the interior minister in the interim government. The date for a vote on the US draft resolution is still unknown.

Earlier, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt announced that Ahmed al-Sharaa will meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington on November 10. On November 1, Axios reported that al-Sharaa was expected to sign documents during his visit to Washington that would admit Syria to the US-led international coalition fighting the “Islamic State“.

On May 14, Trump held talks with al-Sharaa in Riyadh. The president announced that Washington would begin lifting sanctions imposed on Damascus for decades. On July 1, he signed a decree lifting unilateral restrictions on Syria.

On October 15, al-Sharaa made a working visit to Russia, during which he held his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which lasted two and a half hours. During the talks, the politician expressed Damascus's desire to “reset“ relations with Moscow.
