The migration pressure to Greece has decreased significantly in the last quarter, with a decrease of 45 percent on an annual basis, reports “Sky“ television, citing data from the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, BTA reports.
In the period August - October 2025, 11,307 illegal migrants arrived in the country by sea, while in the same months of 2024 their number was 20,279. The most noticeable decrease is in the Aegean Sea, where arrivals were 60 percent fewer.
The ministry notes that the picture in June and July was the opposite - then an increase was registered compared to a year earlier. The decline in the following months, according to the authorities, shows that the government's actions are already bearing fruit.
The measures include the suspension of the processing of asylum applications from migrants arriving by sea from North Africa, the introduction of stricter rules against illegal border crossings, as well as increased diplomatic engagement and constant security on sea routes.
“Our priority is to limit migration flows, accelerate the return of illegal migrants and review the conditions for granting asylum in the context of European efforts to strictly interpret the Geneva Convention“, the ministry said.
