The European Union is preparing to create a specialized center for “democratic resilience“, whose main task will be “countering the disinformation threat“ coming from Russia, China and other countries.
This was reported on Friday by The Guardian, citing a draft EU document to which it has access.
The document is scheduled to be published on November 12. The initiative was initiated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the newspaper said.
According to the publication, the European Commission intends to bring together experts from EU countries and countries that want to join the center to combat foreign information interference.
According to The Guardian, the EU sees the biggest threat in “hybrid attacks by Russia aimed at a struggle for influence in Europe“. China was named as another “source of the disinformation threat“.
“The center will serve EU structures and member states to exchange data and issue warnings about attempts by other governments to manipulate information“, the newspaper noted.
