A Ka-226 helicopter crashed in the Russian republic of Dagestan, killing five people. The plane was flying from Kizlyar to Izberbash and crashed into a guest house under construction in the village of Achi-Su. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon.
"The helicopter crashed into a villa on the territory of a resort center," Magomed-Rasul Abdulsalamov, mayor of the village of Achi-Su in the Karabudakhkent region of the republic, told RIA Novosti.
„The crash occurred on state-owned land, near the coast. The helicopter crashed into a villa on the coastline. This is a non-residential building on the territory of the resort center,“ the agency's source said.
According to Telegram channels, the helicopter crashed into a guest house under construction, where no one was at the time. It was transporting employees of the Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant. There were seven people on board. Four of them died on the spot, and one later died in the city hospital in Izberbash, where the other two injured were also taken.
According to the regional Ministry of Health, they were transported to a burn center. One of them is in serious condition, the other is in moderate condition.
The main cause of the crash is an engine fire during the flight. Pilot error or a technical malfunction are also being considered. A fire broke out at the crash site, but it was completely extinguished. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for safety violations that led to the deaths of several people.
