A magnitude 4.5 earthquake was registered today in the northwestern Turkish province of Balıkesir, with the tremor also felt in neighboring regions, including Istanbul, reports the publication “Türkiye Today“, BTA reports.

The earthquake occurred at 11:58 local time (10:58 Bulgarian time) with an epicenter in the area of the town of Sundergi and a depth of 7.14 kilometers, according to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD).

The publication reminds that this follows a stronger earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on October 27 in the same area, which caused destruction and panic among the local population population. Previously, on August 10, another earthquake with the same magnitude in Sunderg killed two people and injured 29.

According to initial data from AFAD, today's earthquake did not cause serious damage or injuries, but authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

Earlier this week, the region was also hit by a 4.9 magnitude earthquake, felt in Istanbul and Izmir, recalls „Türkiye Tudey“.
