The Pakistani Taliban have claimed responsibility for today's suicide bombing in Islamabad, which killed at least 12 people and wounded 27, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.

"Today, one of our members attacked a courthouse in Islamabad", the Islamist organization said.

"Attacks will be carried out against those who issue decisions based on non-Islamic laws, against those who implement the decisions and against those who defend them until Sharia takes hold throughout the country," the Pakistani Taliban said in a statement.

According to witnesses, the suicide bomber waited outside the courthouse before detonated his explosive device near a police vehicle.

Pakistan, which has been forced to deal with new attacks on its security forces, is demanding that Afghanistan, which is under the rule of the Afghan Taliban, guarantee that it will stop supporting the Pakistani Taliban. Kabul denies providing them with sanctuary on its territory.

The two sides have agreed to a ceasefire, although they have failed to agree on specific details in several rounds of talks.

Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif described today's suicide bombing as a wake-up call.
