The US Democratic Party should replace its leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, with a new face, because he does not represent the future of the party, his party colleague Ro Canna told Fox News.
„In my opinion, someone new is needed. Schumer has been there for so many years... I don't think that's the future of the party," he said.
As possible alternatives, Khanna suggested that his party colleagues consider various candidates, including Senator Van Hollen of Maryland, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts or Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.
“The Senate has to decide who it will be, but there are a lot of dynamic, young, new members,“ he concluded.
U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier said that Schumer was a talented person but had lost his talent.
On Monday, the U.S. Senate approved a package of government funding bills aimed at ending the longest government shutdown in history, which has been in effect since October 1.
As a result, Schumer is facing criticism from the Democratic left for allowing the process to drag on, without securing significant concessions from Republicans. Some Democratic lawmakers are already demanding a leadership change.
