Torrid rains and strong winds have battered the US state of California, world agencies report.
Local authorities said a 71-year-old man died after his car was swept off a flooded bridge in Northern California, and a 5-year-old child was swept into the ocean by 15-foot waves at a Central Coast state park.
A wooden boat believed to be carrying migrants to the United States from Mexico capsized in rough seas off the coast of Southern California, leaving at least four people dead and four hospitalized, the Coast Guard said Saturday, as quoted by the Daily Herald.
The warnings for flooding extended from the Ventura County coast through Malibu to Los Angeles.
"Due to the potential for debris flows, an evacuation warning remains in effect in and around all areas with recent fire damage, and select vulnerable properties remain under evacuation orders," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in X.
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for high-risk properties in the Palisades and Eaton fire areas through Sunday morning. Law enforcement officers were visiting select properties in those areas to urge people to evacuate, Bass said.
