Italy's Supreme Court of Cassation has ordered the extradition to Germany of a man suspected of complicity in organizing the 2022 attacks on the "Nord Stream" 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea.

German prosecutors are accusing the 49-year-old Ukrainian citizen, identified as Sergiy K., of complicity in causing an explosion, as well as unconstitutional sabotage. The man denies the charges.

In September, an appeals court in Bologna approved Sergiy K.'s extradition, but his lawyer filed a case with the Supreme Court of Cassation in Rome, which in mid-October halted his extradition to German authorities due to procedural irregularities.

The Supreme Court of Cassation sent the case back to a lower court in Bologna, where another panel of judges tasked with reviewing the case confirmed the extradition.

In Germany, the case is likely to be heard by a court in Hamburg.
