The idea that increasing military aid to Ukraine and tightening sanctions on Russia will allow Kiev to win the conflict is illusory, US Vice President J. D. Vance said.
“There is an illusion that if we just give more money, more weapons or impose more sanctions, victory will be achievable. Peace will not be achieved by failed diplomats or politicians living in a world of illusions. It can be achieved by smart people living in the real world,” he wrote in X, referring to the new US plan for a peace settlement in Ukraine.
According to Vance, “any criticism of this peace plan that the administration is working on is based either on a misunderstanding of it or on a distortion of important realities on the ground.”
The US vice president stressed that any proposals for resolving the conflict must be “acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine” and also aimed at “minimizing the chances” of resuming hostilities.
