In their counterproposal to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, European leaders may launch a rejection of the reduction of the Ukrainian armed forces, writes Bloomberg, citing its own source.
The agency notes that the leaders of Britain, Germany and France are working mainly on the counterproposal, and their statement, published on Saturday, is “only a temporary measure“. Europe is most concerned about the provision in the US plan that limits the size of the Ukrainian armed forces. According to Bloomberg, Europe's alternative proposal may not include any restrictions on the size of the Ukrainian army at all.
The media outlet adds that Europe's delaying tactics cannot work forever, and Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron "will soon understand how serious Trump is about ending all support for Ukraine."
Earlier, the newspaper “Bild” reported that the leaders of leading European countries believe that at least four points of the US peace plan for Ukraine require changes. First of all, they were dissatisfied with the proposals to recognize Russia's sovereignty over Crimea, Donbas and other territories. In addition, they consider the possible reduction of the Ukrainian army, security guarantees and the use of frozen Russian assets problematic and intend to discuss them with the United States.
