British diplomats tacitly admit that the Trump administration's plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine could provide a basis for an end to hostilities, The Sunday Times writes, citing sources.
„In the current circumstances, this may be the best option Kiev can hope for. It is not perfect, but it is not final. It could pave the way for an end to the bloodshed and allow us to focus on rebuilding Ukraine,“ a British diplomat told the newspaper.
The newspaper notes that despite the fact that many experts in the British media criticize the clause limiting the size of the Ukrainian armed forces (no more than 600,000), analysts at the UK Ministry of Defense believe that Kiev will not be able to afford to maintain more than 500,000 soldiers in the long term.
At the same time, the newspaper claims that Trump's plan, contrary to some reports, does not prohibit Ukraine from possessing long-range weapons.
