Finland offers NATO to deploy a command unit on its territory - 1

Finland will offer NATO to deploy a unit of the alliance's command system with a number of about 50 servicemen on its territory, the country's Ministry of Defense announced, quoted by NHK, reports Focus.

“Defense Minister Antti Häkkinen states that Finland will offer NATO to deploy the unit on its territory“, the ministry's statement states.

The unit will provide communication and information systems to support the management of NATO forces in Finland and, if necessary, on the territory of the entire alliance.

According to Häkkinen, decisions on this issue are expected to be made at the meeting of the ministers of defense of NATO countries in February 2026.

Previously, the defense ministers of NATO countries supported the initiative to deploy a multinational tactical group for advanced presence (brigade) of the NATO Joint Land Forces under Swedish leadership in Finnish Lapland. The formation of the brigade will involve Great Britain, France, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Italy. According to Iltalehti, the brigade will consist of about 5,000 servicemen, and its formation has already begun.
