The Washington administration hopes to resolve the contentious issues of territories and security guarantees for Kiev during consultations with the Ukrainian delegation scheduled for November 30 in Florida, the Axios portal reported.
According to the publication, at a meeting held last week in Geneva on a new US plan to settle the Ukrainian conflict, representatives of the two sides reached preliminary agreements “on all issues except two: territory and security guarantees“. A source from a US official told the portal that the White House wants to resolve the disagreements on the remaining two issues by November 30. “The Ukrainians know what we expect from them“, he added.
Meanwhile, the Financial Times, citing unnamed Ukrainian officials, wrote that the most difficult points of the American peace plan for Ukraine have been “postponed for resolution“ by US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky.“According to Ukrainian officials, such issues include territorial issues, security guarantees and wording regarding Ukraine's aspirations to join NATO“, the newspaper stated.
According to the US State Department, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump's special envoy Steven Witkoff and the US leader's son-in-law Jared Kushner will participate in the aforementioned consultations in Florida from the American side. According to the portal, the Ukrainian delegation included, among others, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov and First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kislytsia. Umerov announced that consultations had begun, but later deleted the message without providing any clarification. Previously, Washington proposed a 28-point plan for a Ukrainian settlement. The document angered Kiev and its European partners, who tried to significantly amend it. On November 23, the United States and Ukraine held consultations in Geneva. Later, Trump said that the initial US plan for resolving the conflict in Ukraine had been revised to take into account the positions of Moscow and Kiev, with only a few controversial issues remaining. He also noted that the number of points in the plan had been reduced to 22.
According to Trump, Vitkov is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week. As Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin“, hosted by journalist Pavel Zarubin on the “Russia-1” TV channel, Putin will receive Vitkov before December 4-5, that is, before the start of his state visit to India.
