"Vladimir Putin held a useful and constructive meeting with the US President's envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. The essence of the American peace proposals in Ukraine was discussed, but a compromise has not yet been reached," said Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov.
"The conversation was very useful, constructive and very meaningful", he told reporters.
Ushakov noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways to further resolve the Ukrainian crisis and to reach an agreement to continue joint work to achieve peace in Ukraine.
Ushakov specified that Vladimir Putin informed the American delegation that Moscow could agree with some aspects of the American plan for Ukraine, but that the Russian side had criticisms of others.
"A compromise has not yet been found, but some American proposals seem more or less acceptable and can be discussed.“
What else did he share Ushakov:
"The meeting discussed the content of the American peace plan for Ukraine, not its specific wording. Russia reviewed the original 27-point American plan.
There was a document containing 27 points, it was handed over to us and we reviewed it, of course. Although we did not work on the wording and there were no discussions with our American colleagues on it, which were also discussed".
Moscow has received four more documents in addition to the original plan of US President Donald Trump. Territorial issues, without which Russia does not see a solution to the Ukrainian crisis, were discussed during the talks. Russia and the US have agreed not to disclose the content of the meeting.
Vladimir Putin conveyed greetings to Donald Trump through Steve Witkoff and a number of political signals, Ushakov said, adding that much work remains to be done. He noted that the parties have definitely not moved away from resolving the Ukrainian issue.
„Nothing more than peace, that's for sure.“, Ushakov said.
On Tuesday evening, Putin received Witkoff and the son-in-law of the US president, the founder of Affinity Partners Jared Kushner, in the Kremlin. The Russian side was represented by presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the president for investments and economic cooperation with foreign countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.
The meeting lasted almost five hours. Immediately after that, Witkoff arrived at the US Embassy in Moscow. He soon left the diplomatic mission without answering journalists' questions.
This is the sixth visit of Donald Trump's envoy this year. He was supposed to present Putin with a peace plan agreed with the authorities in Kiev.
According to Western media reports, the topics discussed included territorial exchanges, security guarantees and the impossibility of Ukraine joining NATO. It is reported that the parties were unable to reach final decisions on all issues. In turn, White House press secretary Carolyn Levitt reported that the initial plan for resolving the conflict had been significantly revised.
According to AFP, the day before, Witkoff had met with the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov. He then traveled to Ireland to present a detailed report to Volodymyr Zelensky, who was there.
