The strong storm “Byron“ hit Greece with powerful winds and intense rainfall, causing floods, landslides and serious traffic difficulties. A red code for dangerous weather has been declared in several parts of the country, and authorities have urged people to avoid travel except in cases of extreme necessity, News.bg reports.
The Attica region remains the most seriously affected, including the capital Athens. Due to forecasts of new heavy rainfall, local authorities ordered all schools and kindergartens in the area to remain closed on Friday.
The storm, which is moving from the southwest to the north, has already caused flooded roads, stuck cars and power outages. Civil Protection teams are are mobilized and working to drain critical areas, while also providing assistance to people in difficulty.
According to meteorologists, the dangerous situation will persist in the coming hours, with a risk of new flash floods in some places. Greek authorities are appealing to citizens to follow official information and to limit their movement until storm “Byron“ weakens.
