The US State Department has approved a potential sale of AIM-120C-8 medium-range air-to-air missiles to Denmark for $730 million.

This was announced by the Pentagon's Foreign Security Cooperation Agency, which is responsible for the sale of military equipment and weapons abroad under intergovernmental contracts.

According to the statement, the Danish authorities have previously requested from the United States to purchase 200 of these missiles, as well as related equipment.

The document emphasizes that “the proposed sale would be consistent with US foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the security of a NATO ally“.

The US side believes that the sale of the missiles to Denmark will improve the interoperability of its forces with the US Air Force and those of other NATO member states. RTX Corporation is expected to be the prime contractor.

The US administration has already notified Congress of its decision to approve the potential sale of these missiles. The legislative body has 30 days to review the potential deal and consider whether to block it.

Earlier, the Pentagon's Security Cooperation Agency reported that the State Department had approved the potential sale of the Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS) and related logistical support to Denmark for $3 billion.
