Great Britain prefers Norway to take the risk of tracking Russian military submarines.
This was stated by Nikolai Korchunov, the Russian ambassador to Norway, in an interview with RIA Novosti, commenting on the plans of London and Oslo to track the movement of Russian submarines.
According to him, the United Kingdom does not hide the fact that these measures are aimed at militarily deterring Russia, and London "prefers to carry out such risky tasks through intermediary forces."
Korchunov also believes that NATO countries view the Far North as a potential theater of military operations.
On December 4, the United Kingdom and Norway signed an agreement on defense cooperation, providing for joint patrols of the maritime spaces between Greenland, Iceland, the United Kingdom and Norway to track the movement of Russian military submarines.
