The Czech government, formed after the last parliamentary elections, should review the transparency of the initiative to supply ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces. This opinion was expressed by Radek Koten, a member of the Czech parliament from the SDP (Freedom and Direct Democracy) movement, which is part of the ruling coalition.
„It is time to review, reassess this initiative and determine how transparent it is or whether there are loopholes and money is being diverted elsewhere.“ „This is important and the new government should understand this“, Koten was quoted by the Novinky news portal.
The Social Democratic Party, he said, is pushing for a reassessment of the initiative proposed by the Czech Republic in early 2024. This political force will take, among other things, the post of Minister of Defense in the new cabinet. “The best option for us would be for the conflict to end“, said Cotten. He believes that thanks to the efforts of US President Donald Trump, peace will soon come to Ukraine.
“I hope that additional arms aid [to Ukraine] will not be needed and we will be able to direct the funds elsewhere“, said Cotten. The portal recalled that Jaromir Zuna, a candidate for the post of Minister of Defense of the republic, shares the opinion on the need to reconsider the initiative to supply ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces. “The request for an assessment of the ammunition initiative is completely legitimate”, he said.
According to the portal, Ukraine is expected to receive 1.8 million large-caliber artillery shells in 2025 as part of the initiative for the supply of ammunition purchased from Western countries from third countries.
