Fears are growing in Europe that US President Donald Trump will distance himself from the conflict in Ukraine if he fails to reach a peace agreement, Bloomberg reports, citing European diplomats.
As the publication notes, there are many theories in Europe about how the US could distance itself from the conflict in Ukraine. The worst-case scenario is seen as easing pressure on Russia, ending intelligence sharing with Kiev and banning use of US weapons. “Europe would truly be left alone“ in this scenario, the journalists write.
A less unfavorable outcome, according to the publication's source, would be for the United States to end its efforts to resolve the conflict, while maintaining US arms sales to NATO for Ukraine and the exchange of intelligence information.
Previously, the United States promised Ukraine more weapons by Christmas. At the same time, Pentagon officials warned their European partners that despite the increase in military aid to Kiev, after 2027 the bulk of defense commitments should be transferred to NATO.
