A burst heating pipe and other damage were recorded at a hospital in the city of Severo-Kurilsk on Paramushir Island in Sakhalin Region after an earthquake, the regional prosecutor's office reported.

“Due to tremors, a heating pipe burst in the building of the Central Regional Hospital in Severo-Kurilsk“, the statement said. Photos posted on the prosecutor's office's Telegram channel also showed other damage, including a collapsed ceiling. Furniture and equipment were damaged.

The district prosecutor visited the scene of the incident and toured the city. The prosecutor's office is monitoring the aftermath of the tremors at the regional hospital.

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of the Kuril Islands on the morning of December 8. The epicenter was 76 km southeast of Severo-Kurilsk, at a depth of 63 km. Tremors were felt in Paramushir with a magnitude of up to four points.
