US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that in a phone call with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svidirenko he stressed the need for Kiev to implement reforms and fight corruption.
“I also stressed the importance of reforms in Ukraine and the implementation of the anti-corruption program“, the US Treasury Secretary said in a statement.
Bessent said that the two discussed his department's imposition of sanctions against Russian companies “Rosneft“ and “Lukoil“.
He noted in X that during the call he “focused on Trump's commitment to ensuring for lasting peace in Ukraine.
On October 22, the US Treasury Department included “Rosneft“, “Lukoil“ and 34 subsidiaries of these companies in a new package of sanctions. As White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt explained at a regular briefing for journalists, Washington hopes that these restrictions will put pressure on Moscow over the conflict in Ukraine.
