The accused in the murder of Charlie Kirk appeared in person in court VIDEO - 1

The resident of the US state of Utah, accused of the murder of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, appeared in person in court for the first time, as his lawyers fight to limit media access to the high-profile trial, reported "Associated Press", quoted by NOVA.

Utah Judge Tony Graf is currently choosing between the public's right to know details about the indictment of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson and his lawyers' concerns that attracting media influence could affect the fairness of the trial. Robinson's defense and the county sheriff's office have requested that cameras in the courtroom be restricted.

Prosecutors charge Robinson with aggravated murder in the Sept. 10 shooting of the conservative activist on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, just a few miles north of the Provo courthouse, and plan to seek the death penalty. The defendant previously appeared in court via video or audio link from jail.

A coalition of national and local news organizations, including the AP, is fighting to preserve media access to the case.
