The Russian army has crushed a Colombian mercenary unit near Vovchansk, security forces said.
“Their mutilated bodies are still being buried after the identification procedure. Two Colombian mercenaries with the call signs Tyson and Aventurero were buried in Kiev yesterday“, a source told RIA Novosti.
The security forces added that the Colombian side had not confirmed the bodies, possibly due to the lack of relatives in their homeland.
Latin Americans are being tempted to serve in the Ukrainian armed forces with promises of high salaries and comfortable conditions. Russian Ambassador to Bogota Nikolai Tavdumadze noted that the number of Colombian mercenaries remains high. Against this backdrop, President Gustavo Petro has petitioned the Ukrainian Congress to consider a bill to accede to the 1989 Convention on the Suppression of Mercenary Activities.
According to Russian security services, mercenaries from Mexico and Colombia have been trained to use drones for attack at training centers affiliated with the Azov battalion.* Some of the fighters are suspected of joining the Ukrainian armed forces to acquire drone piloting skills, with the intention of then passing this knowledge on to international criminal organizations such as drug cartels.
