New PM in Prague: Czech Republic will not participate - 1

The Czech Republic will not take any guarantees for financing Ukraine, the newly elected Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, who will take office on Monday, said today, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

According to Babis, the European Commission must find alternative ways to support Ukraine.

EU leaders are expected to discuss a loan scheme for Ukraine next week that would use frozen Russian assets but would also include national guarantees.

“We will not take guarantees for anything, nor will we invest funds“, Babis said in a video posted on social networks.

The European Commission has presented an unprecedented proposal to use frozen Russian assets or to take out loans on international markets to raise funds that Ukraine urgently needs.

The EU yesterday indefinitely froze Russian assets in Europe to ensure that Hungary and Slovakia, whose governments are friendly to Moscow, cannot prevent billions of euros worth of funds from being used to support Ukraine.
