Alexei Pushkov, head of the Information Policy Committee of the Russian Federation Council, called German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's statement about the end of Pax Americana "a serious recognition of a major geopolitical change".
„German Chancellor and CDU leader Friedrich Merz said at the party congress in Munich that the era of Pax Americana – peace in the American way – is over for Europe. This is a serious recognition of a major geopolitical change, in which not everyone still believes, but which has been brewing for a long time“, Pushkov wrote in Telegram.
According to him, it all started with the first election of US President Donald Trump. Even then, the statements of the American president clearly showed that he was not enthusiastic about Europe, which wants to solve its problems at the expense of the United States, “guaranteeing its security and the work of NATO“, Pushkov noted.
“In a rapidly changing world in which the role of Europe is declining, the end of the era of Pax Americana for Europe will be slow and controversial, but it will be inexorable. The process has begun“, he said.
On December 13, against the backdrop of the publication of the new US National Security Strategy, Merz spoke about the need to protect one's own interests and stressed that Europeans must prepare for fundamental changes in transatlantic relations.
