Investigators believe the perpetrators of the Sydney terror attack meticulously planned the attack on people on Bondi Beach.
It was motivated by terrorist ideology, but the shooters acted independently, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese believes.
In an interview with ABC radio this morning, the Prime Minister noted that the investigation “is still ongoing, but according to the information available, the perpetrators acted alone“.
“This was a carefully planned, calculated, cold-blooded attack. "They clearly considered everything, including the location of the bridge, which was the most advantageous position to harm people," Albanese said.
The prime minister said the perpetrators' actions were likely motivated by the ideology of the terrorist group "Islamic State."
"That ideology, which has existed for more than a decade, has led to hatred and, in this case, a willingness to commit mass murder," he stressed.
Albanese noted that the investigation into the Sydney attack involved specialists from the police and state agencies responsible for national security, including the security and intelligence services and the Foreign Intelligence Service. Investigators are also cooperating with their colleagues from the "Five Eyes" alliance and Australia's international partners.
