Brussels has turned off the tap for Georgia - 1

The European Union will not provide any financial assistance to Georgia until the end of 2025. This was reported by the newspaper „Izvestia“, citing the European Commission.

The European Commission noted that no measures to support Tbilisi are planned for this year. In 2024, the EU stopped providing direct assistance to the Georgian authorities totaling over 120 million euros. These funds were intended to support economic reforms.

According to the European Commission, Georgia is in a deep political crisis, and the human rights situation in the country has deteriorated significantly since the 2024 parliamentary elections. The Georgian authorities are pursuing a coordinated policy of repression that undermines basic democratic principles and suppresses dissent.

At the end of November, Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" and Mayor of Tbilisi, said that a year after rejecting requests for EU accession negotiations, Georgia had significantly strengthened its sovereignty and "showed the whole world that no one should wave a finger at it."

On November 28 last year, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced the freezing of EU membership negotiations until 2028. Unrest ensued. Protesters demanded new parliamentary elections and the release of those detained during earlier protests.
