Russia has handed over to Ukraine the remains of 1,000 Ukrainian servicemen and in return received the bodies of 26 Russian soldiers, Kremlin adviser Vladimir Medinsky said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
The Ukrainian side confirmed receipt of the bodies of 1,003 dead Ukrainian servicemen, Ukrinform reported, citing the press service of the Coordination Headquarters for Prisoners of War Issues.
„Measures for repatriation were taken today. "Ukraine received 1,003 bodies, which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian servicemen," the official statement said.
The statement also specified that Ukrainian investigative and law enforcement agencies, together with expert institutions under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will carry out the necessary procedures for the examination and identification of the repatriated remains.
