Turkey has informed both Ukraine and Russia, as parties to the conflict, of the need to act cautiously in order to avoid measures that could negatively affect security in the Black Sea, Ukrinform reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.
The agency cited a press release from the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.
"Our colleagues were warned that both sides should be more cautious regarding such negative developments affecting security in the Black Sea due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia," Ankara's position reads.
The statement was made in the context of the report on the investigation of an incident on December 15, when the Turkish Air Force downed an unidentified drone that was approaching Turkish airspace from the Black Sea.
The statement said the action was taken based on "a cross-check of multiple data obtained from radar, electro-optical, electronic warfare and early warning systems, due to the difficulty in determining the altitude, speed and size of the drone in question and its low radar visibility".
The ministry stressed that all decisions were taken with the safety of civilians and aviation as a priority.
It was also reported that after being shot down, the drone broke into small fragments, making it difficult to recover its remains.
