Putin's adviser says Russia, Ukraine moving away from peace deal - 1

The changes to the peace plan for Ukraine that Kiev and European countries are introducing are moving the achievement of an agreement further away, said Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, quoted by TASS and Reuters, BTA reported.

"This is not a forecast. I am more than sure that the provisions that the Europeans are trying to introduce definitely do not improve the chances of achieving long-term peace," Ushakov told journalists.

European and Ukrainian negotiators are discussing a set of changes to the US-proposed peace deal, which aims to end the war that has been going on for almost four years. It is not yet clear what changes have been made to Washington's initial proposals, Reuters notes.

The American negotiators - special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner - met with Russian officials in Florida on Wednesday.

After the talks, Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, told reporters that the talks had been constructive and would continue today.
