Two police officers were seriously injured in an explosion near a police station in southern Moscow, Life.ru reported, citing SHOT.

According to preliminary data, an unknown person threw an explosive device through the window of a car parked on “Yasenovaya“ Street in the Orekhovo-Borisovo district. An ambulance team is assisting the injured.

Police and bomb disposal experts are also working at the scene of the incident. Eyewitnesses reported seeing two people running away from the explosion.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing at least two loud explosions, followed by smoke and fire. At least six emergency vehicles are at the scene. One of the injured suffered leg injuries.

On December 22, a car exploded on the same street, killing Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the operational training department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

A possible motive for the assassination attempt on General Sarvarov was previously revealed.

According to the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the targets of the attack were traffic police officers who were injured in an incident on “Eletskaya“ Street in the south of Moscow. A criminal case has been opened.

“Investigative and forensic experts from the Investigative Committee of Moscow are establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident that occurred in the south of Moscow, as a result of which traffic police officers were injured,“ the statement said. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident that occurred on “Eletskaya“ Street in Moscow, the Investigative Committee added.
