Two men are missing off the coast of Devon, England, after a group of swimmers got into difficulty on Christmas Day and rescuers were called, BNR reported.
As night fell, the coastguard called off the search for the two men, one of whom was in his 40s and the other in his 60s. Their families have been informed of the incident.
Earlier, lifeguards pulled other swimmers ashore at Budleigh Salterton beach, with some treated at the scene and others taken to hospitals.
The search for the two men continued throughout the day with the active participation of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and helicopters. Police urged citizens to stay out of the water in this stretch of coast and asked people who had planned traditional Christmas Day swims in the English Channel to cancel.
Virtually all such swims in the counties of Devon and Cornwall were also cancelled due to a code yellow warning for strong winds and rough seas.
