A gas explosion caused a fire on the upper floors of a high-rise apartment building in New York City today, killing one person and injuring 14, authorities said, as quoted by the Associated Press.
The fire department responded to the call for the fire shortly before 12:30 p.m. local time. The building is located in the "Bronx" borough.
A dozen apartments were reported to have sustained serious damage.
Authorities have not yet released information about the deceased. One person is in critical condition, five are seriously injured, and eight have minor injuries.
The fire department said more than 200 fire and rescue teams were working at the scene of the fire.
