A Romanian lawyer, a member of the National Liberal Party (NLP), which is participating in the government, and a person who presented himself as a general from the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), were caught while receiving a bribe from a local businessman in exchange for a promise to influence a favorable resolution of two cases against him, Digi 24 TV reported, BTA reported.

Prosecutors from the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) confirmed the information about the detention of two suspects for influence peddling, and judicial sources specified to Agerpres that they are lawyer Adriana Georgescu, a member of the NLP, and the person Gheorghe Iscru.

The two were arrested yesterday at a time when an undercover investigator handed them the sum of 60,000 euros.

Today, the Bucharest Court of Appeal ordered a 30-day pre-trial detention for the two suspects, reports Agerpres.

DNA prosecutors have established during the investigation that the lawyer had already received 4,000 euros and 5,000 lei (about 980 euros) from the businessman, who is a witness in the case, in October 2025. She claimed that through political figures she would influence magistrates in connection with two cases against the businessman.

Prosecutors claim that on November 21, 2025, the lawyer requested from the businessman an amount between 100,000 euros and 1 million euros, intended for the election campaign of one of the candidates for mayor of Bucharest. She left the impression that through the candidate in question she would have leverage to influence magistrates for a favorable resolution of the court cases against the businessman, Agerpres reported, citing the anti-corruption prosecutor's office.

In November last year, the lawyer also received 5,000 lei with a promise that she would influence the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure through intermediaries to finalize a project of the businessman at the Constanta Port Authority, as well as for his relative to start working in an important position at the Constanta Port Authority.

In January this year, with the support of the lawyer, the person Gheorghe Iscru, who presented himself as an intelligence general, requested from the same businessman the sum of 120,000 euros in several tranches with a promise to influence judges from the Bucharest Tribunal, as well as the Prosecutor General of the Anti-Corruption Directorate. The total amount of the bribe requested by Iscru was 500,000 euros, DNA prosecutors said.

Romanian media reported that the businessman, who has legal problems and who reported the bribes to the anti-corruption directorate, is named Jean-Paul Turcan. In September 2025, he also filed a complaint with DNA against another person who presented himself as the “head of European prosecutors” in Romania - former military Mihai Cristinel Militaru. He was arrested at a time when he was receiving a 60,000 euro bribe with the promise that he would influence judges from the Bucharest tribunal in the case against Jean-Paul Turcan, recalls Digi 24.

According to publications in local media, the businessman was sent to court by the European Public Prosecutor's Office on charges that he used European funds intended for a tourist port for recreation and entertainment purposes to build a house.
