US President Donald Trump called for the arrest of former US President Barack Obama over "fabricated charges" in collaboration with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election, The American Conservative magazine reported on Friday.
The article cites a Trump post on Truth Social, in which the White House chief of staff claims that Obama personally ordered the CIA to fabricate false information about the 2016 election. Trump called this an attempted coup by the former president, for which he should be held accountable.

In July 2025, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard published a report stating that the Obama administration, after Trump's victory in the 2016 presidential election, fabricated intelligence that it claimed showed Russian interference in the election process. This was done in an attempt to remove Trump from power, Gabbard noted. According to her, several months before the election, American intelligence was unanimous: Russia had neither the intention nor the ability to interfere. However, in December 2016 (after Trump's victory), the Obama administration ordered a new report that contradicted the previous assessments. Gabbard explained that the key intelligence conclusion - that Russia did not influence the outcome of the election - had been removed and classified.
