Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told CNN that he believes Tehran can reach an agreement with the US regarding the country's nuclear program.
Tehran's top diplomat said he was "confident that we can reach an agreement" on the program, which the US and Israel believe aims for the ayatollahs' regime to acquire nuclear weapons.
"Unfortunately, we have lost our confidence in the US as a negotiating partner," Araghchi told the American television, while also highlighting the "fruitful" negotiations brokered by common partners.
Araghchi stressed that the focus of the talks should be on Iran's nuclear program, not on curbing its ballistic missile program or support for terrorist groups.
"Let's not talk about impossible things," he said in response to a question on these topics from CNN, "and let's not miss the opportunity to reach a fair and equitable agreement that ensures that there will be no nuclear weapons. As I said, this is achievable even in a short period of time."
Iran has consistently denied seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. However, the country has enriched uranium to levels that have no peaceful applications, prevented international inspectors from inspecting its nuclear facilities, and expanded its ballistic missile capabilities.
