Authorities in Turkey are preparing new restrictions on the use of social networks by children and young people, NOVA reported.
A parliamentary report recommends the introduction of mandatory age verification, content filtering and even a complete ban on access to social platforms for persons under the age of 16.
Among the measures being discussed are also restrictions on internet access in the evening hours, as well as stricter control and monitoring of video games and artificial intelligence toys used by children.
The decision comes amid growing concerns about the impact of social networks on the mental health and safety of minors. Turkish authorities cite increased cases of online harassment, harmful content and excessive use of digital devices as the main reasons for the planned changes.
With these steps, Turkey joins Australia, Spain and other countries that are already considering or implementing similar regulations to protect children online.
