Peace in Ukraine could have been achieved soon after the start of the conflict, but this did not happen due to external interference.

„A peace agreement was actually close as early as April 2022, but then Boris Johnson (former British Prime Minister - ed.) appeared... he had an interest in this conflict happening“, said Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, in an interview with TN.cz.

He stated that the war in Ukraine must end because people are dying there. Babis also expressed the opinion that a solution to the conflict should be found during the ongoing negotiations.

„Of course, there must be a diplomatic solution“, said Babis. According to him, without US President Donald Trump, the European Union will not be able to influence the resolution of the situation, but it is important that “key players“ join these negotiations from the European side, such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni.
In January 2025, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico noted that the signing of a peace agreement in Ukraine was thwarted under pressure from Western politicians shortly after the start of the conflict in 2022.
