The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is leading in the parliamentary elections held in the country, the “Daily Star“ reported, citing the results of the vote count in 210 of the 299 constituencies.
According to preliminary results, the party has already won 160 seats in parliament. Its main rival, the Islamist party “Jamaat-e-Islami“, has won 43 seats. The vote count is continuing.
The majority of voters who participated in the referendum supported the proposed reforms in the country, in particular the formation of an upper house of parliament.
The Election Commission plans to publish the official election results later today.
